Miami, FL, October 5, 2009 - Eventus, the leading national Hispanic experiential marketing, sports and entertainment company, announced today that its President and CEO Nelson Albareda was nominated to serve on a commission created to study the establishment of a National Museum of the American Latino.
Selected by Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, House Minority Leader John Boehner recently appointed Albareda, based on his local and national contributions within the Latino community.
"Nelson has dedicated his career to creating awareness of the many accomplishments of Hispanics in South Florida and across the nation. Through his work and involvement, he has advanced the needs of Hispanics in the U.S. and promoted Hispanic heritage and culture. I thank him for his dedication and service to our community and his willingness to work with other Latinos as we take on this important endeavor and make the National Museum of American Latino Heritage a reality," said Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart.
The federal commission to study the potential creation of a National Museum of the American Latino met for the first time on September 18 and 19, 2009 in Washington, D.C.
The bi-partisan Congressional Act that created the commission was signed into law by President Bush and held its first meetings under President Obama. The Commission consists of 23 members appointed by the President and the Majority and Minority Leaders of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.
A South Florida native and Cuban-American, Nelson Albareda is the president and chief executive officer of Eventus, a Miami-based Hispanic experiential marketing, sports and entertainment company. "I am truly honored to serve as a member of such an important commission," stated Nelson Albareda. "Hispanics have played an integral role in our country's history. I am looking forward to the opportunity to securing a permanent home that will keep the legacy of Latinos in America alive for generations to come," added Albareda.
Members of the commission are appointed by the White House, Senate Majority and Minority Leaders, the Speaker of the House, and the House Minority Leader. Albareda will serve on the commission alongside other prominent Hispanics across the U.S.
